Holding one of Singapore’s most scenic coastline, East Coast Park offers not just a fantastic view, but also a number of recreational activities for the young and old. Skating parks, tennis courts, holiday chalets, and a number of restaurants can all be found in the park.
While many enjoy going to the park just for the scenery, many find peace and escape from the fast paced lifestyle at the park.
“The sea breeze and the sounds of the waves crashing helps me destress when I feel suffocated from schoolwork,” said Miss Sim Weini.
The calming effects of the beach is not the only reason why many visit the park. To some, the park is the perfect place for bonding activities. Families having picnics, friends cycling around the park and teenagers playing volleyball are not an unfamiliar sight to visitors of the park.
When I visited just last week, the park was packed with students from Meridian Junior College, who were having their orientation there. Groups of students were found along the stretch of the park, with some playing ice breaker games, and some chanting their group cheer.
When I approached one of the students, Miss Michelle Tan and asked why they picked East Coast Park for their orientation location, she said that the park was a convenient place. She felt that the place not only allowed them to hold the large number of students they had, it also allowed for them to do a variety of things there, such as cycling and play Frisbee, which may help build team spirit for the new students.
Apart from the usual recreational activities like cycling, East Coast Park also offers water sports for the more adventurous. With the park being situated close to the sea, those who enjoy water sports are able to try out wind surfing, cable skiing and wakeboarding.
“I’ve seen people wind surfing while I was standing at the beach, and it seems quite interesting. I’d like to try out myself the next time I visit,” said Miss Nathalie Wong, a regular visitor of East Coast Park.
With the wide variety of recreational that the park offers, it’s no wonder the park is themed “Recreational for All”. From cycling, to water sports for the more adventurous, and the various restaurants such as Long Beach Seafood Restaurant, East Coast Park definitely caters to a variety of activities, for the young to the old.
